Being the complete sucker for stationery that I am, the Smash book collection really caught my eye and had me purchasing one almost immediately. And while there's no right or wrong way in using it, for a whole year I was too "scared" to touch it and wasn't exactly sure how I wanted to set it up. As the months passed, I realized it was pointless having it sit around collecting dust. It had to be used eventually. I mean, what was the purpose of buying it in the first place, right?
So I finally broke out of my shell and started cutting, pasting, and writing away. I realized that art journaling really gave me a sense of imaginative freedom and self-expression. I've even comfortably added a few more books to the collection (this one, this one, and this kit), and started to use different ones for different themes. It's all about having fun with it!
*A little tip: For those that live in the US and interested in purchasing a Smash book, be sure to check Michael's website for coupons. I was able to get all three of mine for 40% off the original price.
If you have a smash book or use an art journal of some kind, do let me know in the comments below. If you'd like to share, feel free to link your journal post and pictures. I'd love to see it!
Oh wow! It looks so cool and fun, and it's so nice to have something to create memories in a crafty way. I bet anyone who enjoys this will really love the coupon offer. :)
ReplyDeleteHi! I'm a silent reader from Argentina but this time I had to comment. I've been making what I call scrapbooks for the last 3 o 4 years, I've completed 5 notebooks with scraps and embellishments. You can check them up here on my blog: http://lemondeesthetique.blogspot.com.ar/search/label/scrapbooks
ReplyDeleteit's so fun to make them, I spend hours and hours on them :)
have a great beginning of the year!

Hi Vix. Your journals and scrapbooks are so wonderful and creative! Thank you so much for sharing! While I haven't been doing mine for that long, I do plan on keeping it as an ongoing hobby.
DeleteThank you Michelle! :)) How rude of me, I forgot to tell you that yours are looking very very good! I don't add handwritten text (because then i don't like the result, ha!) so I stick to scraps of papers, labels, stickers and other ephemera. Hope you keep up the work and show us more in the future. Nice to find people who share the same hobby :))
Deleteit all looks super fun! i wish i had more time to do things like this.
ReplyDeleteYeah, time can be a little tight sometimes. So I try to journal first thing on the weekend mornings when I'm free. You should try it!
DeleteThis looks so cool and extremely fabulous! Love it :)
ReplyDeleteThank you!
Deletei love this. i was just talking to my friend about our days of journaling with our planners that we got at morning glory so many many years ago. we're so caught up with doing everything through phone apps or on the computer nowadays, i really miss the hands on creativity that we once did with our little planners :)
ReplyDeleteAhhh, Morning Glory! I used to be crazy over that store and brand when I was in high school (and still am.) My friends and I would keep a journal and pass it back and forth in between classes. We would stick in magazine articles, pictures, and even our "secret crushes." ;) Those good ol' days.
DeleteThis is what I do too!! So good for the soul!
