Summer has begun. What fun, creative, and adventurous plans do you have over these upcoming months?
Most importantly, what do you have planned for these upcoming days?
I ask because there is something I have to confess.
And I say "wasting" lightly. It's more like abusing my time.
Mindless scrollings through the Instagram feed, skimmings of high school/college Facebook profiles, watching "click-batey" videos on YouTube. All of this serving no creative purpose to me.
Why? Why am I letting precious, valuable time go wasted like this?
Want to hear another confession? I downloaded this app called AntiSocial (after a friend's recommendation). It tracks and monitors how long you've been on each social media platform, showing you a weekly report.
Guess how many hours in the day I "invest" in social media? ...... It's too much, I'll tell you that! The average is a little over 2 hrs each day, totaling close to 18 hours a week! Yikes!!
Do you know how much I can do with 18 extra hours a week?
- Start a new, creative hobby (like urban sketching!)
- Take up that painting class I've been wanting to do
- Learn new cooking recipes
- Explore more of the bay area
- Take a road trip
- Watch a documentary
- Read 3-5 new self-help books (I keep this one on my nightstand)
- Listen to helpful podcasts
- Hang out with friends
- Visit a new place
- Just enjoy the moment
- Journal more
- Get back into happy mail
- Write more blog posts
- Create a new zine
- Finish my art journal
- Share more Self-Love Journaling videos
And the should-do list can go on and on.
So with that eye opening realization in mind, I've pushed myself to a friendly challenge. It's time for an "antisocial" month of my own.
No Instagram or Facebook for these up coming weeks. Time to take a break this month. Time to go out and DO more! Live more of a creative life!
I need to release myself from FOMO (fear-of-missing-out).
There's simply no way I could catch up on every bit of "information" out there anyway. Besides, 99% of the information we come across, we forget anyways. It's the action and life moments we remember.
"Experiences only happen when we disconnect."
That's what I intend on doing- Living a more connected life by disconnecting.
So! With all of this extra time, I do plan on writing and creating more.
Speaking of creating, I've started a new project. Seaweed Kisses now has a Patreon Page!
If you're not familiar with Patreon, it's basically a membership platform for content creators. You can see more about it here! I'd love to see you there as that's where I'll be spending most of my time over these upcoming months. You can expect to see behind-the-scenes art journal spreads, private self-love journaling videos and pages, crafty tutorials, planner setups, and much more!
So, how will you be spending your summer?
- "If you love life, don't waste time, for time is what life is made up of." - Bruce Lee
- "Time is what we want most, but what we use worst." - William Penn
- "Don't waste time waiting for inspiration. Begin, and inspiration will find you." -H. Jackson Brown Jr
- "It is named the "Web" for a good reason." - David Foster Wallace
Wow, what a great post. It touched me because I always feel I'm short on time. Thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteI hate spending too much time on my phone! I've been trying to watch more shows, draw, blog more, read, etc. whenever I feel like I've been on my phone for too long. This summer, I want to start making planner/stationery on Youtube. ♥

Inspiring post. I find myself wasting time in front of the TV. I begin working on minimizing in the craft room and spare bed room but then get overwhelmed and click on the TV because it’s easier to watch mindless shows than deal with the issues of to much stuff.
